Tips for the Beach

By Carlo Loaces

We can’t stress enough how important it is to take care of the beaches you visit, so here are some tips for the beach as a little reminder of what to do! ;^)

Let’s just imagine for a moment that the beach you are in is your backyard. Nice, isn’t it? Wouldn’t you like for it to be clean every time you go? Well then, bring extra bags when you visit, so you can take your leftovers with you. Remember that aluminum cans and plastic cups are not friendly, opt for reusables instead!

If you do so, careful if you bring glass bottles, if they break, the shattered glass in the sand can be a very painful surprise for barefoot beachgoers (like us). Ouch.

If you bring food, don’t leave the leftovers exposed or worse, behind, remember that in the DR there are many stray dogs that will take the food -needless to say, they will also make a mess all over the beach.

If you have the chance to spot starfish, snails or sea urchins, let them be, the beach is their home. You can take pictures but don’t remove them from their habitat.

If you are fishing, remember to be aware of the season’s restrictions and always return small fish to the sea. Let them grow.

Don’t buy anything made of Hawksbill shells or Coral, buying these would be supporting their extinction.
